Obituary for Francis Joseph "Joe" Davies
Francis Joseph (Joe) Davies, 72, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away on Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at the Martinsburg VA Center. Born August 20, 1944, in Greensburg, PA, he was the son of the late Francis and Lena (Buffalini) Davies.
Surviving is his beloved wife, Waltraud (Binz) Davies, whom he married June 23, 1966 and daughter Daniela Davies (stationed at Fort Gordon, GA); ten siblings, Mary Davies Gorman, James (wife, Vickie) Davies, Michael Davies, Chris Davies (life partner, Susan Palmer), Carol Davies (husband, Duane) Kline, Bunky (wife, Charlene) Guessford, Cheryl Jacobs, Barb Brunner, Buddy (wife, Pat) Kelley, Joni Brunner (husband, Richard) Suller, and Erik Brunner; and all of his nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his daughter, Michele Christine Davies, his second mother, Carletia (Brunner) Davies, and brother, Richard Brunner.
Joe was a career Army Soldier, serving 23 years. He served two tours in Vietnam and was stationed in Dexheim & Bad Tölz, Germany, Bosco Montico (Verona), Italy as well as Fort Knox, Fort Leonardwood, Fort Belvoir, Fort Benning, Fort Bragg, and Fort Devens. His military decorations include the Bronze Star (1 Oak Leaf Cluster), Purple Heart, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Combat Infantry Badge, Special Forces Tab, and Master Parachutist Badge. After retiring from the Army, Joe had a second career in long-haul trucking and traveled throughout the United States. He finally officially retired and spent many years meeting with his Brothers in Arms (10th Special Forces Group; 101st Airborne Division; 82nd Airborne Division; 8th Infantry Division, 12th Engineer Battalion; 173rd Airborne Brigade, 509th Parachute Infantry Battalion) and riding his beloved motorcycles with the Red Man Rider’s Club, the Patriot Guard Riders, the Special Forces Motorcycle Club, and supporting Wreaths Across America.
Services will be held at Harman Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St, Hagerstown, MD 21740 at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, 21 June, 2017. He will then be laid to rest at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, 17636 W. Washington St, Hagerstown, MD 21740. Following these services, his family will host a Celebration of Life at the Williamsport Red Men Lodge 84, 16129 Lappans Rd, Williamsport, MD 21795.
In lieu of flowers, Joe’s family asks that donations be made to the Martinsburg Veterans Affairs Medical Center (Hospice and Palliative Care). Checks should be made payable to the Martinsburg VAMC and earmarked for Hospice and Palliative Care and sent to:
